Many do know it, but the thermal conductivity of diamond is four times higher than it is for copper, meaning that it carries away heat from a sample during ion milling four times faster than if mounted on copper. Yet the diamond if highly resistant to ion milling itself. And when the grid is used as a support grid for analytical TEM studies, there are very low Bremsstrahlung background radiation levels, a highly desirable quality, and one that is comparable to that found for beryllium grids but without the concerns about safety and toxicity.
