SPI Tacky Slides^®

Highly transparent substrate, even UHV compatible!

The SPI Tacky Slide^® product was a logical extension of the highly successful SPI Tacky Dot Slides^® product line.

Rather than having the "tacky area" arranged as an orthogonal pattern of "dots", in this case, for the Tacky Slide product, the entire slide is "tacky".

Hence this permits one to mount dry sections for any kind of LM or confocal microscopy because of the high optical clarify and transparency of the slide and tacky layer. For use in a vacuum, nothing will off-gas from the slide, giving it a real advantage over other mountants that might other wise be used. There seems to be no "shelf life" problems for the "tacky" surface either, and while we have not done extensive testing, we do know that the slides remain tacky at least for some number of years. And unlike other adhesives which owe their "tackiness" to the presence of a plasticizer that slowly diffuses out and evaporates, for the Tacky Slide product, there just is nothing to diffuse out or evaporate, providing a virtually inert substrate for the long term storage of mounted sections or other samples.

Presently, only dry samples can be mounted and held on the Tacky Slide surface. We are undertaking our own research to try to develop a surface to which either wet or semi-dry samples could be adhered, but so far we have not been able to convert our ideas into a viable product.

Also at the present time, the Tacky Slides are available only on normal 1" x 3" (e.g. 25 x 75 mm) glass slides but on special request, we could provide Tacky Slides on quartz slides (but at a higher price of course!).
