Policy for the Shipment of Uranium-Containing Compounds and Uranium Metal
We must do our part to control the export of uranium compounds to certain countries
Some commentary from the ownership and management of SPI Supplies and Structure Probe, Inc.
We live in a dangerous world, unfortunately. And we all live under the threat of terrorism and terrorist
attacks no matter where in the world we are located. We have come to realize that there are some products
sold by SPI Supplies that are in high demand by those wanting to do harm to others through the use of
terrorist activities, and we want to give notice that we are mobilized to do all that we possibly can
to thwart anyone seeking to purchase SPI Supplies products for harmful reasons.
First and foremost, we follow all laws and regulations pertaining to the shipment and export of uranium
containing products from the USA to other countries. If you want to purchase research quantities of these
compounds and want to ask about how the regulations apply to your country, direct your inquiries to
Dr. Andrew W. Blackwood,
Vice President, Technical. However the very best and most accurate information of this type would come from your own customs broker
who handles your imported shipments.
We want to stress that for the most part, for most countries of the world, we can make shipments of research
quantity uranium-containing materials without problems.
Should we receive requests for quantities that in our sole opinion exceed research quantities, we will seek
the advice and counsel of the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Export Administration for guidance with
regard to the proposed order. If an export license is required, we will be unable to make such a shipment
without first the customer obtaining an export license for the required materials. The customer understands
that the act of placing a proposed order with SPI Supplies for uranium containing materials is always subject
to disclosure to the US Department of Commerce, Bureau of Export Administration. And no order destined for export is ever "accepted"
by SPI Supplies until we are certain of the current export status of these kinds of materials at the present time.
We also want to point out that just because we have permission, under current regulations to make a particular
export shipment to a particular country, that does not mean that there might not be special licensing requirements
on the customer's end. It is at all times the responsibility of our customer to make sure that they are aware
of all requirements on their end, and that if any special license is first required, such license should
be sent to SPI Supplies at the time of order placement so that a copy can be included with
the shipment. It is the customer's responsibility to secure this regulatory approval on their end. If
a shipment is made and it can not be cleared into that country, we will make every effort to have the
shipment returned to SPI Supplies, however the return shipping charges and a 40% restocking fee will be
charged to the account of the customer or deducted from any refund of funds paid in advance. This high
restocking fee is necessary because of the large amount of time and cost that is needed in order to clear the
shipment back into the USA and through US customs.
It is at all times our desire to sell more rather than less. However we take very seriously our
responsibility to play a responsible role in helping to keep the dissemination of uranium containing
materials from falling into the hands of the wrong people. We do know that these materials are all
made from depleted uranium but they are still sought by some who would do the rest of us harm. That
is why we take such a strong stance on this subject. If you are a researcher and feel our policy is
causing you undue hardship,
please let me know at once your concerns.
I personally want to make sure there is no conflict between
our taking a responsible role in the control of uranium-containing materials
vs. the need for our customers to have access to these materials to do their legitimate research.
