Microshield Masking Aid
Application hints for the use of Microshield Masking Aid for the
preparation of samples for TEM
Microshield can be used in a number of different ways using different
protocols. We are not sure that one is necessarily better than others,
it might be more a matter of personal style and preference than whether
one method is better than another.
In short, all one has to do is to "mask" that area of the sample that
should not be etched, with a thin, uniform coating of Microshield.
Usually, one would want to mount their sample first, and then mask
(e.g. with Microshield) the underside (when using a single jet system).
It is important to not coat over the area of the sample that will make
electrical contact with the jet polisher as the lacquer behaves somewhat
as an insulator.
At the completion of the thinning step, the Microshield can be removed
with the Microshield Remover.
