Strong oxidizer and major component of the Ruthenium (IV) Oxide staining kit. The product is also used in procedures for the elucidation of glycoproteins. And more recently, there have been reports that the SPI-Chem sodium periodate can be used to enhance the silver enhancement procedure on gold probe embedded in L. R. White resin.
