Instructions for making your own colloidal gold probes

Although commercially available conjugates of excellent quality are available from SPI Supplies, we occasionally encounter individuals who want the experience of "making their own" and for their convenience we list two excellent references from the literature in order to make that undertaking easier:

For gold probes 3.5 nm and larger:
Slot, Geuze Europ. J. Cell Biology 38, 87-93 (1985).

For smaller size gold probes, on the order of 1.5 nm:
Hainfeld, Furuya J. Histochemistry and Cytochemistry 40, 177-184, 1992.
