There are two CAS #'s for Cardolite NC-513, glycidyl ether of 3-alkyl phenol.
This material was originally registered in the USA, Canada, and Europe as CAS #68413-24-1. However, a later "inventory correction" was mandated by the US TSCA, and NC-513 is now registered under TSCA using CAS #171263-25-5.
The registration in Canada and Europe is still the original one, under CAS #68413-24-1.
We don't have any simple way of explaining this except to note that when one really has the need to declare a CAS # for the SPI-Chem™ NC-513 glycidyl ether of 3-alkyl phenol, we would recommend the following statement: In the USA, use CAS #171263-25-5, for Canada, Europe and the rest of the world use CAS #68413-24-1.
Cardolite® NC-513 is a unique reactive epoxy flexibilizer (some would say plasticizer) and diluent. This low viscosity fluid has predominantly one reactive epoxy group per molecule which combines chemically into the epoxy system. That is why we have published the chemical structure above to make this point more easily understood.
In addition to wide use in microscopy and histology laboratories worldwide, especially as part of the well known Marglas® formulations, this material has found applications elsewhere such as marine and industrial coatings, industrial flooring, preparation of certain amine products, and also, coatings that come in contact with potable water.
