The environmentally-sensible alternative to CFCs, PFCs, and HCFC 141b

PAFT-4:
Program for Alternative Fluorocarbon Toxicity Testing (PAFT-4) is a cooperative research effort sponsored by 16 of the leading fluorocarbon producers in the world. The program is designed to expedite development of toxicology data for potential CFC substitutes. All of the toxicological testing designed for HCFC-225ca and HCFC-225cb planned under PAFT-4 was completed in early 1994. Data from acute toxicity studies demonstrate that HCFC-225ca and HCFC-225cb have very low acute toxicity. The 28-day inhalation toxicity study with marmoset, a primate, also showed that HCFC- 225ca and HCFC-225cb has no significant effects on primates. Overall evidence from several genotoxicity studies implies that neither isomer is a genetic hazard.

AEL (Acceptable Exposure Limit)
Base on the results of PAFT-4, Asahi Glass, the manufacturer, set the AEL for AK-225 at 50 ppm, 8 hour time weighted average.

VOC:
Exemption proposed on May 1, 1996. Final ruling in Federal Register in September 1996.

TSCA (Toxic Substance Control Act):
HCFC-225ca and HCFC-225cb, the AK-225 isomers, are TSCA registered.
