Sudan Black B is a lysochrome, meaning it is a fat soluble dye. It is used for demonstrating triglycerides in frozen sections. It can also localize protein bound lipids in paraffin sections. The powder is insoluble in water but moderately soluble in ethyl alcohol. It is the active ingredient for the "Sudan Dye Solution" used in ASTM D-4454. It can also be dissolved in LR White Resin in order to bring out more contrast with the embedded tissue.
