Electron dense metal stain used in a variety of different procedures for TEM. It is a key ingredient in "Sato's Lead", the special protocol published by T. Sato, J. of Electron Microscopy 17, 2, 158 (1968). The use of lead acetate does require ultra high purity and care with your work, and if you are not careful, one can easily end up with "goop" in their samples.
