Detailed Certificates of Analysis accompany all SPI-™ colloidal gold reagents giving individual
specifications for each and every product.
High sensitivity:
Conjugates with particle sizes up to 20 nm will detect 10pg of specific protein with each gold
conjugate in immunoblotting tests (and with silver enhancement). Two nm gold conjugates provide
even higher sensitivity. Primary antibodies may therefore be used at higher dilution.
Low clustering:
Each gold conjugate has greater than 85% singlets and no clusters greater than triplets.
Quantitation is possibly by counting gold particle density.
Low cross reactivity:
The majority of the SPI-Chem™ antibodies are affinity purified and of the highest quality.
Cross reactivity with other species is minimal. Conjugates are further absorbed against
specific serum proteins where indicated.
High concentration:
Optical densities of gold conjugates at 520 nm wavelength are measured as 3.0 for 5 and 10 nm,
4.0 for 15 and 20 nm, or 5.0 for 30 nm or 40 nm gold conjugates. This allows for them to be
used in a highly diluted form.
High resolution:
Because of the discrete nature of the gold particles and the close absorption of
antibody/binding protein to the surface, antigens are localized with very high resolution.
Narrow particle size distribution:
The low coefficient of variation of the gold particles for each conjugate allows
for multiple labeling to be achieved for several different antigens on the same specimen.
Long shelf life:
SPI-™™ gold conjugates are stable at 4° C for 12 months from delivery. If the
conjugate is stored frozen, it will remain stable until its use by date (do not
freeze 1 nm conjugates).
