Butoxyethanol (pronounced 2-byu-tox'ee eth'uh-nol) is a component of various embedding resin formulations that are used in the electron microscope laboratory. The material is a clear colorless liquid that smells like ether. It has many other applications often times as a solvent in enamels, varnishes, and latex based coatings. It also has applications in liquid soaps, cosmetics and certain cleaning compounds.
