SPI Desiccant Capsules

Specially made to keep SEM samples dry in SPI Storage Boxes!

These amazing desiccant capsules turns SPI Specimen Storage boxes into SPI-Dry storage boxes! When their moisture-absorbing capacity is exhausted, the capsules will turn from blue to pink. Capsules can be rejuvenated by heating in a lab oven for several hours at 90^oC driving off the absorbed moisture and recycled this way for an essentially unlimited number of times. And unlike some capsules on the market, the SPI Desiccating Capsules are sealed to keep particulates inside and capsule and not outside, where they can contaminate important mounted SEM samples.

Of course, these same capsules can be used in any desiccator cabinet, perhaps contained in a petri or other kind of dish. Note that these capsules should not be confused with the SPI-Dry™ Sample Preserver Capsules which store important samples under an inert atmosphere (instead of just dry conditions).

For longest shelf life, insert desiccating capsules, then insert samples to be stored, close box cover, and then seal the lip, completely, with ordinary tape (e.g. 3M^® Brand Scotch Tape). In fact we have had reports that the capsules stay blue for years this way!

Capsules designed to fit into SPI SEM Mount Storage Boxes.

Small capsules (SPI # 02040):
Dimensions: 8 mm (0.315") diameter x 22 mm (1.338") long.
Use in SPI-Dry boxes # 02001, # 02003, and # 02006. Packaged four capsules per pack. Note: Capacity of boxes is 4 capsules.

Large capsules (SPI # 02050):
Dimensions: 12 mm (0.472") diameter x 34 mm (1.338") long.
Use in SPI-Dry box # 02020. Packaged two capsules per pack. Note: Capacity of box is 2 capsules.
