
RoHS Compliance of SPI Supplies Products
European Union (EU) directive that bans lead (Pb) and other materials in electrical and electronic equipment
Introduction:
RoHS (Restriction on Hazardous Substances) is a European Union (EU) directive
that bans lead (Pb) and other certain materials in electrical and electronic
equipment. This directive takes effect on July 1, 2006.
The RoHS directive bans the following substances:
- Lead (Pb) and compounds of lead
- Mercury (Hg) and compounds of mercury
- Cadmium (Cd) and compounds of Cd
- Hexavalent Chromium and compounds of hexavalent chromium
- PBB (polybromobiphenyl)
- PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ethers)
In addition to these substances, the non-Pb (lead-free) parts of SPI Supplies, in addition to the above,
do not contain the following substances unless prominently noted on the product page of the SPI Supplies website:
- Chlorinated paraffins (chlorine flame retarding materials/plasticizers)
- Polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB) category
- Polychlorinated naphthalene category
- Organic Tin compounds (Tributhyl tin category/Triphenyl tin category)
- Asbestos
- Azo compounds
- CFCs or other Class 1 Ozone Depleting Substances
Products displaying the RoHS "button" (see above, upper left corner), are indeed RoHS compliant and you can purchase them with the confidence that they
meet the standard for being RoHS compliant.
